The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team defeated Lampasas 2-0 Jan. 22.

The two teams played a scoreless first half. Then the Lady Mustangs’ pressure (5-3-1) paid off.

“We changed things in our offense a bit,” head coach Marisa Miller said. “We used our wings tonight. We were a little more offensive.”

Marble Falls put constant pressure on the Lampasas defense. The result was a penalty kick awarded when junior wing Ashley Ferreira “was causing a lot of chaos when she got fouled.”

Junior Ava McNamara scored on the penalty kick.

Junior captain Dulce Macias scored the other goal.

“She got the ball and dribbled there and scored left footed,” the coach said.

One point of emphasis going into this contest “was to be more offensive.” Miller was pleased to see it on the pitch.

“We didn’t have as many opportunities on top,” she said. “We tried to possess a little more and get our offense going.”

The coach noted the Lady Badgers (1-7) are better than their record may indicate. They’ve had five losses by no more than two goals.

“They were definitely a competitive team,” she said. “Lampasas has been competitive. It definitely wasn’t an easy win. We definitely dominated the second half offensively. That was one of our goals.”

Marble Falls travels to play at Killeen Chaparral Friday, Jan. 24, with the junior varsity playing at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

“We’ve been coming along since the beginning of the season,” Miller said. “We’ve been working together as a team. We have so many new faces. They’ve been very receptive.”
